The Unread

Creative intellectual property — fiction series and story world

A multilingual digital estate built around a near-future fiction series: story world, reader journeys, content architecture and atmosphere, in eighteen language editions.

Creative / IP project. Not a B2B consultancy client and not presented as one; it is included because of what the digital system demonstrates.

The commercial requirement

Intellectual property has the same problem as a commercial proposition: an audience has to understand it, believe it and be given somewhere to go — before there is anything to buy.

The requirement was to build the world, the series and the reader journey as a proper digital system rather than a holding page for a forthcoming book.

The digital challenge

Creative work is usually presented either as a single atmospheric page with nothing to read, or as a content dump with no atmosphere. Both fail for the same reason: no structure behind the mood.

The estate also had to work internationally from the start, which means real language editions rather than a translate button.

The approach

Treat the story world as an architecture: the series, the individual titles, the world and its places, the author, and the ways in.

Let atmosphere carry the brand while structure carries the reader — one clear next step from every page.

Build the language editions into the system rather than bolting them on later.

What was built

  • A series architecture with individual title pages, an extract, reading guides and an author section.
  • Story-world pages covering the world and its characters and places, giving the IP somewhere to live beyond the books themselves.
  • A thematic content layer around AI and humanity and AI fiction, giving the series a discoverable subject rather than only a title.
  • Audience routes: join, media, search and a buy route for when the book is released.
  • Eighteen language editions with their own sitemaps, so the estate is internationally discoverable rather than English-only.
  • A cinematic visual system carried consistently across every page.

How the system supports the commercial objective

It demonstrates that the same infrastructure principles — architecture, content hierarchy, audience journeys, internationalisation, one route out per page — apply well beyond a conventional B2B website.

It shows brand atmosphere and commercial structure coexisting rather than competing, which is exactly the problem premium B2B brands have.

It evidences a multilingual content system built from the ground up rather than retrofitted.

If a brand has to work in several languages and still feel like one thing, the language editions have to be part of the architecture rather than an afterthought.
