Norway's home market is small relative to the manufacturing and specialist industrial capability many of its companies have built, so exporting is a natural next step for businesses that have proven a product domestically. The UK, being nearby, English-speaking and large, is often a logical early destination for Norwegian manufacturers looking beyond Scandinavia.
Norway's position outside the EU (but inside the EEA) means Norwegian companies are already used to navigating trade arrangements that differ from the EU norm, which is useful experience for the UK's own outside-the-EU trading position โ but the two are not identical, and neither is the way UK buyers specify and purchase compared with the Norwegian or wider Nordic market.
