Sales consultancy for Newcastle and the North East.
Sales strategy, commercial leadership and business development for engineering, manufacturing, construction and energy businesses across the region.
The North East
The North East's B2B economy is built on engineering, manufacturing, construction, offshore and energy supply chains, and a growing professional and technology sector around Newcastle and Gateshead.
Many businesses here sell nationally by necessity — the regional market alone is rarely large enough for a specialist manufacturer or engineering firm. That makes territory planning and remote business development more important than in denser parts of the country, and it is usually the part of the sales operation that has never been designed.
It is also a market where relationships and supply-chain reputation carry real weight. That is a genuine asset, but a business that depends on it without a structured commercial process is exposed the moment a major customer changes hands.
The businesses we work with in and around Newcastle
Engineering & manufacturing
Technical manufacturers and engineering firms selling nationally and into export markets.
Energy & offshore supply chain
Businesses selling into long procurement cycles where qualification and persistence matter most.
Construction & building products
Contractors and product manufacturers working through specification and main contractor routes.
Professional & B2B services
Service businesses looking to build pipeline beyond the regional network.
Evans Sales Consultancy is UK based and works with businesses nationally. We do not operate an office or a local team in Newcastle — clients get a senior commercial practitioner working in their business on agreed days, not a regional account manager.
What usually holds sales back
01
Dependence on a small number of customers
Supply chain concentration means two or three accounts carry the business, and losing one would be material.
02
National ambition, regional activity
The business wants to sell across the UK but the sales effort still follows the existing relationship map.
03
No commercial leadership layer
There are salespeople or estimators, but nobody setting strategy, targets and accountability above them.
Customer concentration review and a plan to diversify the revenue base
National territory and target account planning
Fractional Sales Director support for businesses too small for a full-time director
Business development and project generation into new sectors and supply chains
Sales process, bid and follow-up discipline for long procurement cycles
Sales team structure, targets and performance management
How we work
A sales growth assessment first: where revenue actually comes from, how concentrated it is, and what a realistic diversification plan looks like over twelve months.
Then hands-on delivery — the target list, the approaches, the meetings and the review rhythm, working with your team rather than handing over a document.
A Canadian architectural-components business wanted to establish a route into the UK and wider Europe. We rejected a conventional distributor model, built a project-partner network across the UK, Germany and France, and helped generate approximately £2.2m of new-market turnover within 12 months.
A German balustrade manufacturer needed a route into the UK. Distribution alone was not the answer — the distributors had to be found, onboarded, trained and then supported in selling.
A major UK balustrade supplier was well established elsewhere in the UK but thin on the ground across the northern territories. Growth there needed direct commercial activity.
Crucial Engineering wanted to expand beyond Bradford and build a genuine national sales operation. We helped develop larger Tier 1 and Tier 2 opportunities, strengthen business development and establish a profitable new automation revenue stream.
D&I wanted to accelerate growth beyond its existing model. We helped strengthen the sales strategy while establishing a dedicated installation arm and new aluminium fabrication capability, supporting turnover growth from approximately £2.2m to £4.6m.
A European architectural-glazing manufacturer wanted to establish a genuine UK operation. We helped set up the office and showroom, build the sales strategy and pipeline, support staffing and launch the business commercially.
BM Architectural wanted to expand its balustrade sales and create its next stage of growth. We helped win new customers, establish a dedicated architectural division and develop additional product opportunities including glass canopies.
No. Evans Sales Consultancy is a UK business with no offices outside its own base, and we do not claim a local team. Work is delivered through a mix of on-site days and structured remote working, and most engagements involve regular days in the business.
Most run over several months at one or two days a week. Shorter, fixed pieces of work — a market assessment or a pipeline review — are also possible.
In part. We build the strategy and process, and we take an active role in business development, but the aim is always that the capability stays in your business.
This page is for established businesses trading in the UK. If you are an overseas manufacturer or business looking to establish a commercial presence in Britain, that is a different piece of work.
