The challenge
D&I is an established Barnsley-based windows and doors business, founded in 2009, working across windows, doors, conservatories and wider home-improvement products. At the start of the engagement the business was turning over approximately £2.2 million and wanted to accelerate its growth.
At that point D&I bought in its uPVC products rather than fabricating them, and the commercial model was built around selling and supplying those products. The ambition was to increase sales, strengthen the commercial operation and capture more of the value already passing through the business.
The question was therefore broader than generating more enquiries. It was how much more value the company could capture from the market it was already selling into.
The objective
Increase sales and grow turnover from the existing £2.2m base.
Strengthen the commercial operation behind that growth.
Capture a greater share of the value in the products and projects already being sold.
Develop additional revenue opportunities alongside the core business.
What we did
01
Commercial growth strategy
Worked with D&I to identify where meaningful additional growth could realistically come from. The strategy looked beyond enquiry volume and considered how the business could increase sales, expand capability, capture more value and strengthen its overall proposition.
02
Sales development
Supported the wider sales-growth activity required to lift turnover — commercial strategy, opportunity creation, pipeline growth and the development of revenue across the customer and trade sides of the business.
03
Building the installation arm
Helped D&I establish and develop a dedicated installation arm, allowing the company to take greater control over delivery and capture additional value from work it was already generating rather than passing that stage on.
04
Establishing aluminium fabrication
Identified and helped implement the opportunity for D&I to establish its own aluminium fabrication capability, rather than relying entirely on bought-in finished aluminium products. That in-house aluminium capability broadened what the business could offer and supply.
05
Expanding the commercial model
Sales growth, installation capability and aluminium fabrication together moved D&I from a supply-led model to a broader, more vertically integrated operation — a commercial-growth engagement rather than a sales campaign.

A Canadian architectural-components business wanted to establish a route into the UK and wider Europe. We rejected a conventional distributor model, built a project-partner network across the UK, Germany and France, and helped generate approximately £2.2m of new-market turnover within 12 months.
A German balustrade manufacturer needed a route into the UK. Distribution alone was not the answer — the distributors had to be found, onboarded, trained and then supported in selling.
A major UK balustrade supplier was well established elsewhere in the UK but thin on the ground across the northern territories. Growth there needed direct commercial activity.
Crucial Engineering wanted to expand beyond Bradford and build a genuine national sales operation. We helped develop larger Tier 1 and Tier 2 opportunities, strengthen business development and establish a profitable new automation revenue stream.
A European architectural-glazing manufacturer wanted to establish a genuine UK operation. We helped set up the office and showroom, build the sales strategy and pipeline, support staffing and launch the business commercially.
BM Architectural wanted to expand its balustrade sales and create its next stage of growth. We helped win new customers, establish a dedicated architectural division and develop additional product opportunities including glass canopies.
