Sales consultancy for Sheffield's industrial businesses.
Commercial strategy and hands-on business development for manufacturers, engineering firms and industrial suppliers across South Yorkshire.
South Yorkshire
Sheffield's commercial base remains genuinely industrial: advanced manufacturing, metals and materials, engineering, construction products and the industrial supply chains that sit around them.
Businesses selling technical products face a specific commercial problem. The proposition is often genuinely superior, but the buyer is comparing on specification, price and lead time, and the difference is rarely articulated in commercial terms. Engineering-led businesses tend to sell the product; buyers are usually buying certainty.
That is the gap we work in: turning technical strength into a sales operation that produces predictable pipeline rather than relying on being asked to quote.
The businesses we work with in and around Sheffield
Advanced manufacturing & metals
Technical manufacturers selling to OEMs, tier suppliers and industrial end users.
Engineering & industrial services
Capital equipment, engineered systems and service businesses with long, technical sales cycles.
Construction products
Manufacturers selling through specification, contractors and distribution.
Industrial distribution & supply
Distributors needing structured account development rather than reactive order taking.
Evans Sales Consultancy is UK based and works with businesses nationally. We do not operate an office or a local team in Sheffield — clients get a senior commercial practitioner working in their business on agreed days, not a regional account manager.
What usually holds sales back
01
Selling on specification alone
Technical detail dominates the conversation and the commercial case — cost of failure, delivery certainty, total cost — is never made.
02
Reliance on incoming enquiries
The business quotes what arrives. When enquiry volume drops there is no proactive activity to replace it.
03
Engineers doing the selling
Capable technical people carry commercial responsibility without a process, a target list or sales management behind them.
Commercial assessment of enquiry sources, conversion and quote follow-up
Target account and sector strategy for technical products
Positioning work that turns technical strength into commercial argument
Business development and project generation into named accounts and specifiers
Fractional Sales Director support for businesses without commercial leadership
Sales process, CRM and pipeline discipline suited to long technical cycles
How we work
We begin with the numbers: enquiry sources, conversion rates, quote values and where opportunities stall. In technical businesses the answer is usually in the follow-up gap, not the product.
The work then runs alongside your team — building the target list, making the approaches, joining customer visits and reviewing what the pipeline is actually worth.
A Canadian architectural-components business wanted to establish a route into the UK and wider Europe. We rejected a conventional distributor model, built a project-partner network across the UK, Germany and France, and helped generate approximately £2.2m of new-market turnover within 12 months.
A German balustrade manufacturer needed a route into the UK. Distribution alone was not the answer — the distributors had to be found, onboarded, trained and then supported in selling.
A major UK balustrade supplier was well established elsewhere in the UK but thin on the ground across the northern territories. Growth there needed direct commercial activity.
Crucial Engineering wanted to expand beyond Bradford and build a genuine national sales operation. We helped develop larger Tier 1 and Tier 2 opportunities, strengthen business development and establish a profitable new automation revenue stream.
D&I wanted to accelerate growth beyond its existing model. We helped strengthen the sales strategy while establishing a dedicated installation arm and new aluminium fabrication capability, supporting turnover growth from approximately £2.2m to £4.6m.
A European architectural-glazing manufacturer wanted to establish a genuine UK operation. We helped set up the office and showroom, build the sales strategy and pipeline, support staffing and launch the business commercially.
BM Architectural wanted to expand its balustrade sales and create its next stage of growth. We helped win new customers, establish a dedicated architectural division and develop additional product opportunities including glass canopies.
No. Evans Sales Consultancy is a UK business with no offices outside its own base, and we do not claim a local team. Work is delivered through a mix of on-site days and structured remote working, and most engagements involve regular days in the business.
Much of the work to date has been with manufacturers of technical and engineered products, including glazing systems, building products and industrial components sold into specification and contractor routes.
Yes. International market entry and European market development are core services, and many industrial businesses grow fastest by adding a well-chosen export market rather than fighting for share at home.
This page is for established businesses trading in the UK. If you are an overseas manufacturer or business looking to establish a commercial presence in Britain, that is a different piece of work.
