Building repeat trade demand beyond the local market

Trade Sliders is a Yorkshire sliding-door and wardrobe business supplying the trade. Over approximately nine months, Evans helped the business win wardrobe work with regular-buying trade customers across the UK, rather than depending on isolated one-off orders.

The challenge

Trade Sliders manufactures and supplies sliding-door and fitted-wardrobe products to trade customers from its Yorkshire base.

The commercial challenge in this kind of business is rarely enquiry volume. It is the quality of the account behind the order. A single consumer-driven order is worth a fraction of a trade customer who buys repeatedly, month after month.

The objective was therefore to develop regular-buying trade accounts across the UK rather than simply take more isolated orders.

The objective

  • Win wardrobe work with trade customers, not one-off consumer orders.
  • Develop regular-buying accounts capable of purchasing repeatedly.
  • Extend prospecting beyond the local market to trade customers across the UK.
  • Reduce dependency on isolated orders.

What we did

01

Defining the right customer

The starting point was target selection: identifying the type of trade customer capable of buying wardrobe work regularly, rather than pursuing whoever happened to enquire.

02

UK-wide prospect development

Prospecting was extended beyond the local market to trade customers across the UK, so the business was not limited by geography in how many suitable accounts it could reach.

03

Business development into trade accounts

Direct business development into those accounts — approaching them, opening the commercial conversation and helping the business win wardrobe work with them.

04

Building repeat rather than one-off demand

The emphasis throughout was repeatability. Winning a regular-buying account is worth considerably more than winning an order, and the commercial activity was structured around that.
