Commercial tools & calculators

Tools that give a prospect something useful and give you a qualified conversation.

A well-built commercial tool does two jobs at once: it answers a question the buyer genuinely has, and it tells you more about them than any contact form ever will.

Why tools outperform brochures

A commercial tool is an interactive asset that produces something a prospect actually wants: a cost comparison, a plan, a diagnosis, a specification shortlist. Because completing it requires them to describe their situation, the resulting enquiry arrives with far more commercial context than a contact form, and it can be prioritised properly.

Downloadable brochures capture an email address and tell you nothing. A tool that asks about markets, volumes, timescales or current arrangements tells you whether the person is worth calling this afternoon.

The requirement is that the output has to be genuinely useful on its own. A tool that produces an obvious sales pitch is abandoned, and the abandonment is visible.

Evans Sales Consultancy runs its own tools on this principle: the fractional sales director cost calculator and the growth plan tools produce a substantive output whether or not the reader ever makes contact.

What this includes

Cost and comparison calculators

Transparent models that let a buyer compare options honestly using their own assumptions.

Planning tools

Structured questionnaires that produce a genuinely useful plan or recommendation.

Commercial diagnostics

Assessments that identify where a commercial operation is losing opportunity.

Qualification tools

Journeys that establish fit before a conversation, saving both sides time.

Specification and selection tools

Product or configuration selectors for technical ranges where choice is genuinely difficult.

Output delivery

On-screen results, a PDF, and an emailed copy with a durable link the prospect can return to.

When it is the right piece of work

A considered, high-value purchase

Buyers research extensively before making contact, and want to arrive informed.

A genuinely complex decision

Cost, configuration or route-to-market choices that people struggle to work through unaided.

Enquiries arrive unqualified

The team spends its time triaging contacts rather than progressing opportunities.

Authority needs establishing in a new market

A useful tool builds credibility faster than claims about experience.

Common questions

  • Usually partly. Showing the substantive result on screen and offering the PDF or a saved copy by email respects the user and still captures the serious ones. Gating everything reduces both use and trust.

  • They can, but only if the whole journey is localised: questions, validation, progress messages, on-screen output, PDF and the email. A tool that switches to English at the result is worse than an English-only tool.

  • Through a defined commercial model, with AI used where it genuinely improves the output โ€” for example turning structured answers and public information into a coherent written plan. The logic and its limits are documented.

  • It depends entirely on the depth of the model behind them. A clear comparison calculator is a modest piece of work; a diagnostic that generates a personalised written plan is a substantial one.
